Every time i sip on coconut water, it brings back memories of home. 😐
It was so cheap that i didn’t really spare a thought about it. It always quenched my thirst. The burst of nutrients , vitamins rushed though my veins and it made me feel like a new person ever single time.
I remember the times when i used to walk along with my mum on the bustling streets of India (Pune, to be precise), the sight of a fresh green coconut water brought joy to our eyes. The dust, heat and the humidity was enough to drive us mad (especially, if you are shopping around looking for bargains 🙂 ) I used to rush like a giddy child upon seeing a coconut hawker. It was worth the pound that we spent drinking a sugar free natural alternative. I was never a fan of fizzy drinks really so this nectar was always welcome.
Thankfully, coconut water is so easily accessible in supermarkets, online shops etc. that i can stock it up whenever i need and i do not miss the little luxuries of India. I had tried some other coconut waters before (the ones you get in cans) but it always tasted sickly sweet 😦 Not the kind you expect when you crack open a fresh green coconut. I kept thinking —every single of those cans must taste the same and so i gave up.
I did not bother much till i came across the Vita Coco brand. I had purchased their coconut oil and really loved it. The coconut oil tasted fresh, slightly nutty and a bit sweet —-exactly how a coconut should taste like!!
So, it did not take me long to pick up the Vita Coco water and i am glad i did. It TASTED EXACTLY LIKE A FRESH GREEN COCONUT. No sugar additives, no preservatives. It has 3 simple ingredients : 99% Coconut water, 1% natural sugars and Vitamin C. Easy Peasy!!! An absolute winner.
Vita Coco gets a thumbs up from me. I just feel rejuvenated thinking about it 🙂
Coconut waters to try: Zico, Chi.
I would love to know if there are any other coconut waters to try? Please feel free to comment 🙂
