I have always used a cream cleanser but the idea of a balm cleanser intrigued me. I have been using the Lyonsleaf calendula healing cream – which in my opinion is an A* product and so i had to give this balm a try!! I have posted my thoughts on the calendula cream here.
Did it disappoint : Absolutely not– I wouldn’t lie because it truly is a labour of love 🙂
How it fare as multipurpose cleanser/ moisturizer? And who should try it? P.S. I do not have eczema/extremely dry…. I just wanted a balm cleanser to give me supple skin.
As a cleanser it is great because it has the right amount of greasiness to lift the dirt and grime. The cold pressed organic babassu oil (origin : Brazilian rain forests) is the star ingredient really. It is high in lauric acids and is increasingly being used as a replacement of coconut oil. So women/ gals who break out with coconut oil SHOULD give this beauty balm a try.
In case your are curious about the awesome ingredients 🙂
ingredients: (95% organic/wild harvest): orbignya oleifera [cold pressed babassu oil] • butyrospermum parkii [raw organic shea butter] • macadamia ternifolia [organic, cold pressed, macadamia nut oil] • simmondsia chinensis [organic, cold pressed, jojoba oil] •prunus amygdalus dulcis [cold pressed sweet almond oil] • tocopherol [natural vitamin E oil] • cymbopogon martinii [palmarosa essential oil]• salvia sclarea [clary sage essential oil] • styrax benzoin [benzoin resin] • pogostemon cablin [patchouli essential oil] • rosemarinus officinalis [organic rosemary essential oil] • calendula officinalis • [calendula flower extract] • note: the essential oils naturally contain: citral, geraniol, benzyl benzoate, benzyl cinnamate, farnesol, limonene, linolool
With makeup performance : A++
It takes off all the makeup off. It does not leave a greasy feeling. It gives the right amount of moisture post wash. However it would be quite difficult to remove the balm without a washcloth/microfiber cloth. It doesn’t emulsify into a milky consistency. It is quite a heavy duty balm. It is a god send for anyone with extremely dry inflamed eczema skin.
Without makeup performance : I tend to stick to lighter oils/creams in order to avoid using a microfiber cloth. I tried it once, it is quite effective in lifting the dirt off but i try using it only in the evenings after work.
As a moisturizer : A+
Post-wash, the skin feels really supple. So, there is really no need to apply any moisturizer but in case you are using an exfoliating toner after the balm cleansing step like I do, you do need the slightest amount of the balm.
Packaging : Impeccable design and handwritten batch number 🙂
Travel friendly : I am not sure how the beautiful oils in it would sustain a humid weather–things such as leakage and seepage. (we shall see soon! )
Aroma profile : Clary sage, patchouli (It reminds of cardamom somehow… it doesn’t have any and yet it reminds me of cardamom)
