I do not like men with flaky, dry skin (and especially men with bad breathe. Period!!!!) So i was amazed that my man did not have the concept of skincare ingrained in his routine EVER. Like many men , he just washed his face with a cheap foaming, detergent smelling cleanser 😦 and slapped some moisturizer.
His skin flaked (esp. near the nose) and did not look supple at all. It just lacked the va va voom that i wanted 😉 So i scoured the internet for a solution and these three moisturizes came to his and my rescue.
Green People Organic Homme Cool Down Moisturizer (125 ml) A-
This mid-range price minty moisturizer has all the goodness packed in a tube. Made from organic Aloe Vera, Shea butter, Green Tea, Mint & Calendula, it sure boasts of ingredients free from parabens, SLS, colorants (free from nasties). Performance wise, it is sort of BLAH! Don’t get me wrong. For all the goodness, it does not give any break outs BUT it does give a white cast which takes time to settle in. The ingredient list doesn’t list any zinc oxide or titanium dioxide to contribute to the white cast, so it is quite perplexing. I don’t see my husband reaching out for this very often and he doesn’t think he will repurchase it . There is no doubt this is a great British brand and this is our first purchase, so little can be said of the rest of the skincare line. I am looking forward to trying out the Organic Homme 2 Shave Now Wash & Shave (shaving gel) for my husband soon. Hopefully that will turn out to be a better buy.
Weleda Moisture Cream for Men (30ml)—-Wish they made bigger tubes!!! A++
This expensive (for the miniscule amount) herbal smelling moisturizer is a WINNER in the tiniest tube. Portable and packed with the best possible ingredients, this tube contains witch hazel, jojoba and other good stuff gives the best bang for the buck (sort of). A little goes a long way. My husband loved it but wanted more!!!!! He would repurchase it (great for carrying on travels). I can always vouch for the effectiveness of Weleda Skincare (a German brand) because i love their bestselling / award-winning staple — SKIN FOOD (a post coming up soon!!!). I know i will be trying this brand for the rest of my life. It is pretty affordable for the quality that they deliver.
Lyonsleaf Healing Calendula Cream: Natural Treatment for Eczema & Psoriasis. (120ml) SMELLS GORGEOUS A+++
P.S My husband does not suffer from eczema or psoriasis. And yet, he loves this water-free non greasy moisturizer! The healing calendula is a natural, powerful anti-inflammatory that promotes healing and cell regeneration. His skin looks so supple and fresh. A little goes a very long way. It is cost-effective. It almost feels like a balm but with a slighter thinner consistency. It smells of Frankincense (this cream gives you that true aromatherapy experience that you would crave for after a long days hard work). Performance wise, it is true to its word- it heals any zits, dry and chapped skin. I am not sure how this cream would fare in a hot and humid climate because i would not like it ooze all the beautiful essential oils all over my clothes. Nevertheless, it is going to be repurchased!!!
In case you are curious this is the ingredient list :
prunus amygdalus dulcis [cold pressed almond oil] • butyrospermum parkii [organic shea butter] • prunus armeniaca [cold pressed apricot kernel oil] •calendula officinalis • [calendula flower extract] • borogo officinalis [cold pressed borage oil] • tocopherol [vitamin E oil] • juniperus communis [juniper essential oil] • boswellia serrata [frankincense essential oil] • lavendula angustifiolia [lavender essential oil] •pelargonium graveolens [geranium essential oil] note: the essential oils naturally contain: citral, citronellol, eugenol, geraniol, limonene, linolool
A special mention for the brilliant logo : How beautiful is that!!! The logo’s design , the dark glass packaging is just another excuse for me to keep adding it to my vanity case :-). It truly deserves the gold award for the Free from skincare awards in 2014. Hats off to Ben and Vicky Lyons for producing another amazing British brand.
This is how i grade my products : (pragmatically thought out grading)
A+++ : Superb product, Worth the buy !!!!!!
A- : Maybe, it would work for you, but it did not make my heart sing.
B : Maybe a try , and if you have the money to squander!
C : Straight to the bin !!! ( I doubt you will see such a product on this beauty journal because i will be researching my products well. And even if the shit hits the fan..(pardon my french) , I will still not give it C because i think somebody out there is manufacturing his/ her products and putting his/her heart and soul into it and i just cannot rip apart their efforts.
Does the man in your life have a skincare routine? I would love to hear from y’all!
Great wife you are! My hubby is such a man’s man, all he uses is soap and shampoo (after much resisting he switched to green brands too) but other than that he won’t use anything, even when his skin is so dry it’s cracking I have to take matters into my own hands, i.e. chase him down, pin to the ground and slather some coconut oil or some cream on.. I will keep that Weleda cream in mind though. Green People have great clean shampoo and I like their suncreen for kids (was killing myself looking for natural option without any nasties or a bunch of alcohols last summer, and I like it) I have heard great things about their make up too, but don’t have any myself.

Dear Renee,
Like all men he just used the supposedly good ‘tea tree’ range from Superdrug and he always complained his skin felt dry sometimes and sometimes oily. I neither had a routine. Only when we started juicing that we made a complete overhaul of the skincare routine as well. So now he uses a rosewater toner and facial oil and some coco as body moisturizer. So that’s a start 🙂
Does the green people sunscreen give a whitecast? Would love to know.
Cheers

They did some sort of survey. Apparently men scoop the product out, rub it in their palms first and then pat their face with whats left. Apparently very ineffective with sunscreen. Did you notice that with the man/men in your life ? We women dot the face and rub it in without wasting the product.

Hahaha. I laughed when i read your comment. Because my man doesn’t do that. He mimics the way i apply my skincare 😀 😀 . Dots it around the face like i do. I give him the looks 😉 if and when he doesn’t complete his skincare routine 😀 😀
